I am a semi retired primary school teacher who supports an adult son with special needs and looks after my granddaughter 3 days a week. I believe teaching is an art form not a delivery system. A good teacher must of course know the curriculum, but the real skill and magic of teaching is engaging the child with the material and firing up their imagination. The greatest skill in teaching is creativity, the ability to meet each child where the child is and use my connoisseurship to capture that child`s love of learning. My love of children and learning never ceases and I continue to study and practise in this most multi-faceted demanding and rewarding of professions

Availability: Except for Wednesday, I`m available every day after school, all day Tuesday and Friday and most weekends .

Willing to travel: 30 miles

Experience: In 2020 I was head of the Junior department at Saint Ignatius Catholic School in Saint Heliers, DRS, and tutor teacher to beginning teachers. Previous to this I was Junior team leader at St Peter Chanel in Hamilton for 7 years. I am a trained Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) and spent 10 years in this position in Whangarei supporting teachers and schools in adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of students with learning and/or behavioural needs. As an RTLB I having training and experience in working with children with special needs including autism , aspersers and ADHD children. My passion and expertise lie in literacy and in helping all children master the complex myriad of skills and competencies needed to have success in mastering reading and writing.
