Information about Thanaa

My name is Thanaa from Mauritius. I am 30 years old. I have a B.ED degree; a bachelor degree in English and Educational field. My education explored the 4 skills of the English language in terms of language use and skills aimed for several purposes, Literature, methodology, linguistic and pedagogical, psychology, curriculum, assessment and evaluation, ICT, sociology, mass and communication development content and practice. I did my CELTA in 2017 and started teaching at the British Council, Mauritius.

Availability: I would prefer online platform or work from home. I can start immediately and my time availability is flexible.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have taught English as a classroom subject as well as a second and foreign language in general, communicative and business platforms. I have online, face-to-face and off-site classes. I have conducted different workshops such as email, creative writing, presentation, speaking, business and communication skills, storytelling events, corporate classes and IELTS workshop as well as Cambridge exam prep sessions. I enjoy teaching every part of ESL and would like to explore teaching several types of classes.
I have experiencein training students from 4 years old to adults. I worked in different schools in Mauritius; teaching Language and literature in English for 5 years before joining the British Council, Mauritius. I love giving my learners a more flexible and dynamic setting where they experience and practice the language in a fun and enjoyable interactive platforms. I usually differentiate my materials and teaching style to adapt to my learner`s needs. I am quite positive about differentiated strategies as well as method and approaches of teaching to help my learners progress and experience a more interactive and communicative platform.
I analyse my learner`s needs and issues to plan my lesson. Last week itself, I had an adult class who were not comfortable drilling expressions and language phrases about the first aid context. They thought it was childish to repeat after the teacher and one of my main aim was correct pronunciation of the expressions so that they would develop verbal skills in speaking tasks. I decided to add a fun part in the lesson so that the learners would be more comfortable, thus I wrote the expressions on A4 papers and put them on the floor and played the step-on-the-stone game. The outcome was impressive, the learners were having fun, stepping on the papers so that they don`t fall in the river and I was taking each paper to elicit the correct pronunciation and practice it. The adults were having fun and quite motivated to do the task and I succeed in achieving my aim.
I love my job and want to explore the world of ESL to a greater extent. The learners are from several countries, cultures and have several needs and this is intriguing as well as challenging to me. I think several qualities are needed to make a good ESL trainer for example good communication skills in terms of verbal and non-verbal. This requires a good prosody of language, for example pronunciation, pace, pitch hand gestures to convey the message in an appropriate way.
This means being smiley, assertive and having an approachable personality I think an online trainer should be interactive and have communicative activities to motivate and help learners with the language
