Information about Alan

Do you want take your academic studies to the next level? Let me help you reach your goals!

With a passion for mathematics, I participated in various mathematical competition before representing New Zealand at the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad in 2019. Moreover, I was awarded a Medal in the Australian Mathematical Competition, one of 69 out of over 600000 participants worldwide. I also have a strong interest in Science, representing New Zealand in the 20th International Brain Bee in 2018 (placing 10th in the world), after being awarded the New Zealand Champion. For this competition I had to self-learn neuroscience from zero in a short span of time. I also took two 2nd year Physics courses and 1st year Mathematics course at the University of Canterbury as a Year 13 student, gaining A+ in all of them. Finally, I studied for and successfully gained an Outstanding Scholarship in Physics and Scholarship in Calculus and Chemistry, all whilst being a Year 12 student.
With my achievements in and out of school, I was awarded Dux of my high school.

Through these experiences I have developed an efficient, effective and systematic way of learning STEM subjects, which I am very excited to share with you.

In addition, I have just graduated from High School, and am about to attend Amherst College in the US in September. As such, I am very familiar with the latest NCEA standards and the American SAT test system. Moreover, I understand what it is like to be a student.

I believe high quality learning can only take place when the student is actively engaged in the material. Moreover, they need a deep understanding of how and why the theorem, reaction or calculation works, and not just rote-learning.

Through my enthusiasm and thorough explanations, I strive to demystify what is seen as hard and dull subjects, and help YOU ‘get it’. I am keen to share my love of learning for students of all years levels at primary and secondary.

Regardless of your current abilities and needs, you have the potential to succeed.
Let me help you realize your ambitions. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
