Information about Gayathri
I am Gayathri Narmada and I am currently pursuing Master of Professional Accounting at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand. I hold an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) and a First-Class Honours degree in Accounting from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. I am also a CIMA (UK) passed finalist.
My journey in Accounting began when I ranked 14th in Sri Lanka (and 1st in the island in the English medium) at the GCE Advanced Level Commerce stream in 2012. Since then, I have taught thousands of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across both local and internationally affiliated programs (Plymouth University â UK and Victoria University â Australia).
I love helping students overcome fear or confusion around accounting by simplifying concepts, using mind maps, and connecting ideas to everyday examples. My goal is always to spark curiosity and build confidence, because once students believe in their ability, they thrive.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I bring over 6.5 years of experience as a university lecturer, having taught and mentored thousands of students in accounting, finance, management, and banking. I have delivered 12 core modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across local curriculum and affiliated programs with Plymouth University (UK) and Victoria University (Australia). Working one-on-one with students has always been one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I genuinely enjoy identifying learning gaps, tailoring my approach to each individual, and building their confidence over time. During my tenure as a lecturer, I was able to consistently achieve a student pass rate and satisfaction rate of over 88% across all modules delivered.
I have held complex academic administrative responsibilities including roles such as Node Leader for Accounting and Finance Degrees (Plymouth University â UK), MBA Research Coordinator, PhD Coordinator, Global Youth Camp 2023 National Co-coordinator and Editorial Assistant for key university publications. I led the professional development unit for Accounting and Finance students at NSBM, identifying knowledge and skill gaps, and organizing targeted seminars, workshops, and events. My responsibilities also spanned budgeting, admissions support, policy implementation, monitoring student progress, and liaising with industry partners. A key achievement was leading the curriculum development panels for the BM (Hons) in Banking and Finance and the M.Ed. in Educational Management and Leadership, both successfully approved by the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.
I also worked as a private tutor, specializing in Cambridge International A Level and O Level Accounting. Over the years, I have guided eight students through one-on-one tutoring, all of whom achieved A* or A grades. I am also familiar Cambridge Business Studies at both upper secondary and advanced levels.
Throughout my career as a lecturer and a private tutor, I have personally mentored and supervised more than 150 undergraduates, providing them direction and motivation to improve and harness their skills, confidence and potential for personal and professional growth. This experience has further sharpened my ability to empathize with students, understand their behaviour and thought processes, and proactively provide effective and timely solutions to support their academic and professional development.
